THE CASE OF BABASSU COCONUT BREAKERS

Abstract

This article aims to present the communication processes in babassu extractivism. Regarding methodology, the research is characterized as bibliographic and qualitative. Some authors used in the theoretical framework are Peruzzo (2006), Silva (2014) e Barbosa (2018). We present the concept and typology of extractivism. We address babassu extractivism as an essential activity for the development of brazilian extractive communities. We highlight the socio-environmental role of women coconut breakers.We discuss popular communication as a relevant factor for women babassu coconut breakers and their interaction with Information and Communication Technologies. We conclude that popular communication is present in the movement of babassu coconut breakers, and that these women use technologies to communicate among themselves and with the outside community.
