Abstract

This paper has as main theme the organizational commitment. It’s an investigation about two types of commitment, particularly those proposed by Meyer & Allen and Medeiros, presented by permanent employees and contractors of an institution linked to public education in Fortaleza - Ceará. The question of the survey is: employees that not belong to effective staff have a similar level of organizational commitment of others, whether in relation to the level or type? The main objective of this study is to identify the importance given by the employees of the Municipal Education Department Fortaleza - SME to participate in drafting the strategic goals of the institution, relating the level of commitment adopted by the different types of employees at Meyer & Allen and Medeiros typology. Data were collected between december 2008 and january 2009 using a structured questionnaire, which were statistically analyzed by descriptive and inferential techniques. The main conclusion is that there were no statistically significant differences between the perceptions of both groups, including the importance given to participation in the drafting of the goals of the institution.
