Abstract

Among mass media, television, even with the advancement of the Internet, is still among the most accessed, and with great power of influence, as recent research on media consumption habits of the
Brazilian population points out. In view of this reality, it becomes pertinent to understand how the commercial broadcasters of open TV articulate to contribute to the development of a region. In journalistic coverage, the regionalization of content tends to bring the viewer closer to his region, motivating his participation in the search for advances and improvements. The objective of this article is to resume discussions about the relationship between communication and development, based on an analysis of the representativeness of the municipalities of the metropolitan region of the Vale do Paraíba and Litoral norte in the local coverage of the three TV stations open with public concession, RMVale.
Guiding a region also requires planning and management of the journalism departments, which does not always have the resources needed to execute the coverages in the ideal way. From a theoretical reference of studies in the area, the method is delineated as exploratory, bibliographical, of qualitative approach.
