Abstract

This article analyzed the suitability of three Federal Institutions of Higher Education (IFES) of the center-west of Minas Gerais in the implementation of sustainable biddings. To achieve the results, the research was carried out in two stages. The first one, with quantitative research, sought to verify the level of these IFES regarding the acquisition of sustainable products, analyzing their purchase notices in the years 2011 to 2013. In the second stage with qualitative research, we sought to verify, through a semi-structured interview , The measures adopted, as well as possible barriers and difficulties encountered by the institutions in this implementation. The results indicated that these institutions acquired few items with sustainable criteria, so they are still in an early stage in this implementation. Several barriers and difficulties faced by them have been detected, but it is possible to note some positive actions and initiatives carried out by these IFES. It is therefore perceived that the implementation of sustainable bids is a slow, gradual process that is in its infancy and requires the awareness, participation and involvement of all: population, companies and government, to include sustainability with Government purchases.
