Social benefits of a Technological Park in professional training: case study Serratec – RJ

Abstract

The Serratec Technological Park, located in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro, stands out as one of the largest technology centers in Brazil, housing the National Laboratory for Scientific Computing and over 400 technology companies. These environments drive knowledge generation, technology transfer, and the transformation of ideas into innovative products and services. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the social benefits provided to the population in terms of information technology training promoted by the Serratec Technological Park, located in the municipality of Petrópolis, state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. An exploratory and descriptive case study approach was used. During the 20-day availability of the online questionnaire, 78 respondents participated, with the predominant age group ranging from 20-45 years (95%). The sociodemographic profile was 24% female and 76% male, with the highest representation from the municipality of Petrópolis (34 people). The research reveals that 73% of the respondents are aware of the existence of Serratec, while only 56% participated in the courses offered by the partner institution FEST. The Serratec Technological Park offers training opportunities, internships, and educational programs in IT, contributing to the development of skills, qualification of professionals, and fostering innovation. Additionally, it plays a crucial role in regional economic development, interacting with the community, promoting digital inclusion, and improving quality of life.
