Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the influence of the presence of a center for exhibitions and business events in the development of tourism in the big cities. The work focused Expominas, which is the largest exhibition center in Minas Gerais, and is located in Belo Horizonte. The methodology was based on documental and bibliographical research and questionnaires given to managers of Expominas and of promoters of the business entities, Sebrae, AMIS and Centro Cape. The events promoted by these entities are, respectively, Entrepreneur Fair, Handcraft Fair and Superminas. These events led to Expominas about 288,000 people, among them national and international tourists at 2010. The results confirmed the importance of an Exhibition and Convention Centre as part of the production chain guiding the development of regional tourism. It was shown that, in the view of managers and organizers of corporate events, Expominas plays a key role to boost tourism events in Belo Horizonte.
