Abstract

This study aims to identify the perception of students who attend the last year of the Management graduation course in two private colleges in São Paulo, Faculdade Bilac and Etep Esplanada, about their career planning. To accomplish that, Schein's Inventory of Career Anchors (1990) was applied to 90 students in October and November, 2013. Results show that in the Bilac unit, where students have higher age and lower income, anchors related to stability, security and technical skill prevail. In Etep Esplanada, where students have lower age and higher income, anchors related to independence, flexibility and creativity prevail. The choice of the anchors confirms two typical professional profiles: those who seek the possibility to manage their own career versus the ones who prefer to compromise and to be loyal to certain organization. Results also suggest a strong influence of income, family structure, social class and moment of life in the student's anchors selection.
